The Carnal Nature and the Carnal Mind
This lesson represents an important step forward along the road of unfolding truth. It shows that while He was on earth, the Lord Jesus had a carnal na-ture; however, He always kept His conscious mind spiritual. Therefore, He had a carnal nature, but not a carnal mind!
Proverbs 23
[7]For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, says he to you; but a man’s heart is not with you.
Proverb 27[20] Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
There 13 things listed that defiles a man with his Carnal mind.
Mark 7
[20] And he said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man.
[21] For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulter-ies, fornication’s, murders,
[22] Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blas-phemy, pride, foolishness:
[23] All these evil things come from within, and defile the man
There are 17 things listed in this scripture about the works of the flesh.
Gal. 5
[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, forni-cation, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
[21] Envy, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Mark 7
[20] And he said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man.
[21] For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulter-ies, fornication, murders!
[22] Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blas-phemy, pride, foolishness:
[23] All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
Eph 2
[1] And you has he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
[2] Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, ac-cording to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:
[3] Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
1 John 2
[16] For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
[17] And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever.
HIGH PRIEST — As the King-Creator in the third heaven, the Son of God could not relate to us as fallen children of Adam. He had to live in the earth as Jesus Christ, and become a priest, subject to death as we are. Thus, the Father spoke Jesus as a seed into the womb of a virgin Jewish girl. Nine months later, a baby boy was born just like all of the other babies in Israel; except that His soul was alive by the Holy Spirit to the Father
Hebrews 2:14-17
The children are partakers of flesh and blood Jesus also took part of the same. That through his death he would destroy him that had the power of death that is the carnal mind or the lust of the flesh or the pride of life or the lust of the eye. Ever since the fall of Adam people throughout the years have fallen to the desires of the flesh.
We know that Jesus just didn’t come down here to die. He came to be tempted in all ways, yet he did not sin. He Learned obedience through the things that he suffered in his journey through this life. Then he learned through suffering the feelings of our infirmities. making him a sacrifice to our father the creator the Almighty God !
Jesus received A CARNAL NATURE in the natural body. Jesus was born of a woman in the flesh but was quickened by the spirit to do the will of the father God.
HEB. 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of Our infirmities. He was tempted in all ways yet without sin making him an acceptable sacrifice to God.
We were born in sin in our mother’s womb, through the curse of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Adam was disobedient bringing that curse on all mankind! It is important to note: that Jesus was the first person after Adam! to have a live soul or quickening spirit which is the Holy Ghost or the power of God..
The fact is established that Jesus was “in all points (categories) tempted like as we are, yet without sin”
Now let’s look at Peter and Paul’s teaching on how Jesus overcame His carnal nature…
1 PT. 3:18-19 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the un-just, that he might bring us to God, BEING PUT TO DEATH IN THE FLESH, BUT QUICKENED BY THE SPIRIT:
MT. 4:3-11 And when THE TEMPTER came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.
1 PT. 3:18-19 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the un-just, that he might bring us to God, BEING PUT TO DEATH IN THE FLESH, BUT QUICKENED BY THE SPIRIT: 19 By which also he
went and preached unto THE SPIRITS IN PRISON;
BEING PUT TO DEATH IN THE FLESH — Ultimately, Jesus met and de-feated every “ite” temptation that came forth from His carnal nature. This “death” is the progressive FIRST death
Hebrews 2:14, “that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil.”
HEB. 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men ONCE TO DIE, but
after this the judgment:
Jesus completely defeated His carnal nature with the living Word of the Father. Thus, “the second death which is total death for the soul! The body in the grave for all eternity, could not touch the soul of Jesus. In this setting, “the judgment” refers to Jesus as a perfect over comer. The carnal nature in His natural body. He was then judged worthy by the Father to inherit everlasting life!
2 Cor. 5:21
Where God has made him to be sin for us, who knew on sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Jesus did not break the law of his father. He met every temptation that came from his carnal nature. He defeated it by the Word of God as he applied into his life. So he never became carnally minded like Adam was after he sinned.
James 1:13-15
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am TEMPTED OF GOD: for God can-not be tempted with evil, neither tempt he any man: But every man is tempt-ed, when he is drawn away of HIS OWN LUST, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.
TEMPTED OF GOD —
Human temptations arise from the spirits not of God. in the land: the carnal nature in the natural body. These spirits do not come from God. God sent His Son to show us how to defeat the evil thoughts.
HIS (OR HER) OWN LUST — This is a key verse in this lesson. It clearly identifies “the tempter,” “the devil,” and “Satan” in Jesus’ life.
THY KINGDOM COME — The second heaven spiritual condition. Just as Jesus prepared His disciples for the Early Church, His Spirit and Word are preparing us now for the Latter Church.
The natural body (“the land”) of a believing human being. Our natural body is dust, dirt, and earth! The Holy Spirit being directed by the Word of God. In our day, the second heaven condition of the Latter Church! Will be manifested through the overcoming lives of the saints in the Body of Christ.
They will follow the example of Jesus, the head of the body, and keep their “appointment” with the first death!
When we come to the Body of Christ, our soul becomes alive to God through the Holy Ghost Baptism! Our past sins are forgiven by God, and we begin to learn His wonderful Word!
ROM. 8:4-8
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. The Carnal mind is enmity against God: It is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
THEY THAT ARE IN THE FLESH CANNOT PLEASE GOD.
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:
If ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
THE CARNAL MIND — The conscious mind that is heavily influenced
and controlled by the carnal nature. This mind is not subject to the Law of God! We cannot have an effective battle against the carnal nature with the Word of God by itself. That is why it is important, that we receive the Baptism of the Holy Ghost.
JN. 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone!
I DO ALWAYS THOSE THINGS THAT PLEASE HIM.
By this statement, Jesus declared that his human life, before the Father, was always pleasing!
Therefore, by these two settings alone, it proves that Jesus had a carnal nature, but not a carnal mind because was sinless. I believe we can reach maturity in this body! Where sin no longer has control over us.
